UNWOVEN

Having worked with burlap as a surface to paint on, I re-approached it as a material that could express the simultaneous strength and fragility of displaced people. In the Unwoven series, I remove the warp or the weft of burlap strand by strand. Thinking of the repeated losses that test displaced individuals, relationships, and whole communities, I am testing the limits of the structure of the fabric, taking it to a point just before it comes apart entirely.
